Emergency Electrical Callout – Burning Smell from Switchboard in Glenfield, Auckland
The Emergency
At 8:15 AM on a Sunday evening, a property owner in Glenfield contacted Sparky G Ltd after noticing a strong burning smell and buzzy noise coming from the electrical switchboard.
The customer was concerned about a potential electrical fire and requested an urgent after-hours electrician.
Our Response
Within 20 minutes of receiving the call, our registered electrician arrived on site and carried out an immediate safety assessment.
Power was isolated to the affected circuits to eliminate any immediate fire risk while investigations were undertaken.
Fault Investigation
Using thermal inspection equipment and electrical testing procedures, we identified excessive heat being generated at one of the Old fuse terminals.
Further inspection revealed a loose connection that had gradually deteriorated over time, creating resistance and heat build-up.what leads to loose connection - rear side installed a massive grinder unit.
Signs of overheating and insulation damage were visible around the termination point.
Repair Process
The damaged section of cable was removed and replaced.
The new modern circuit breaker termination was re-made using correct torque settings and the affected components were thoroughly inspected for additional damage.
All connections within the switchboard were checked as a preventative measure.
Electrical testing was then completed to verify safe operation.
Result
The electrical fault was successfully repaired the same evening.
Power was safely restored and the customer was able to remain in the property without further disruption.
Most importantly, a potentially serious electrical fire hazard was identified and rectified before significant damage occurred.
